Non-Executive Director and Human Factors Specialist

Dr Patrick Waterson provides academic input into the ongoing development of our training material, as well as being very experienced in adult education. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, Chartered Psychologist, Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He has a BSc in Psychology (First Class) from Lancaster University, an MSc in Knowledge-Based Systems from Sussex University and a PhD in Human Factors from Nottingham University.

During his career he has worked as a Research Fellow and MRC Scientist at Sheffield University (1992-2002) and Head of Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering in Germany (2002-2006). He joined Loughborough University in 2007. In 2014 he was awarded the William Floyd Medal from the UK Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors for outstanding contribution to the field of Human Factors.

Patrick is Editor-in-Chief for ‘Policy and Practice in Health and Safety’ (the official journal of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, IOSH), an Associate Editor for BMC Medical Informatics and Decision-Making and serves on the editorial boards of Applied Ergonomics, Cognition, Technology and Work, IIE Transactions on Occupational Ergonomics and Safety Science.
