Train the Trainer Programs

Develop your own in-house Human Factors faculty

Most Train the Trainer Programs attempt to cover both Human Factors knowledge and training methodology in a few days of stand-alone classroom training. For qualified educators, this means time wasted on basic instructional skills and for those without existing educational skills it isn’t realistic to expect them to develop both knowledge of Human Factors and high-quality teaching skills in that limited time frame/format. As such we offer 2 separate programs;

  • 10-week program – 5 days of teaching at fortnightly intervals with development work and comprehensive support between taught days.
  • Requires existing experience/qualifications in adult education & training.
  • This course will enable attendees to both integrate the principles of Human Factors and Performance Science into their existing training, as well as run short courses on ‘An Introduction to Human Factors for Healthcare’.
  • 10-week program – 5 days of teaching at fortnightly intervals with development work and comprehensive support between taught days.
  • Suitable for those with limited training experience.
  • The course will enable healthcare professionals to develop adult education skills, and be able to utilise these skills in a healthcare setting alongside their clinical role.

We do offer the option of combining the two courses as an 18-20 week program, but only if there is a commitment to further follow-up support (such as one of our team supporting trainers for their first course).

We provide a complete package including;

  • Delivery at your location
  • Trainers Manual – Human Factors for Healthcare
  • Support materials (including ppt slides, practical exercises, videos, recommended reading, research evidence)
  • Course handouts
  • Rights for unlimited use of our materials in future training (within your organisation)
  • Relevant case studies
  • CPD Certification
  • Course will be facilitated by two of our highly skilled senior trainers – usually a combination of one with practical experience of applying human factors in a high risk/high performance setting and one of our Chartered Ergonomists (postgraduate qualification in HFE). All of our senior trainers have extensive experience in adult education
  • Recommended group size of 10-12, with a maximum of 15

“I am a senior educator and practising clinician who has overall responsibility for Clinical Education across the Trust. I have found the UCLPartners and MedLed Human Factors Programme extremely informative. It has highlighted and brought to the forefront within my own mind the importance and very real clandestine elements that affect everyday practice.

‘Migration of boundaries’ and ‘Just culture’ resonated with me for a combination of reasons which has helped me focus my thoughts on how one facilitates another, which in turn, has helped me distil a Human Factors Education Strategy for the Trust.

The programme has helped me crystallise a vision for scope and depth of Human Factors Education to facilitate a shift in organisational culture to ensure staff are working within safer systems. This can only serve to enhance the care we provide our patients within an environment that is ever-changing, extraordinarily complex and increasingly challenging.”

Clinton John, Head of Clinical Education, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

“I found the training program into Human Factors very interesting, informative and extremely well delivered. They delivered a wide range of topics which sparked many intelligent and engaged conversations in a relaxed environment allowing key points to be focussed on. It gave me a much better insight to the elements of Human Factors and more importantly, how they can be incorporated into the Trust to strengthen our quality improvement plan and change historical culture”.

“Since attending the course, we have developed a Human Factors working group, written a training package for staff which is relevant and relatable and trained the group of Quality, Governance and Assurance managers. Training will also be delivered to all Serious Investigation trained managers to better understand the root cause of the incident being investigated.”
