Jenny Sutcliffe
Trainer & Human Factors Specialist
Jenny Sutcliffe is a Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist with over 16 years’ experience spanning healthcare, med-tech, defence, and security. She is the Director of Wood Street Solutions Ltd, where she provides Human Factors education, systems-focussed consultancy, and strategic support to organisations across the NHS.
Jenny previously led a pioneering human factors programme at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, embedding human factors and systems thinking into the trust. The programme was aimed at raising the awareness, understanding, and application of the science of HF within healthcare to improve staff & patient safety and wellbeing. The teaching programme included principles of human factors, Safety I & II, proxies of human work, user-centred design, psychological safety, and patient safety (PSIRF and SEIPS). As well as teaching, Jenny worked with her transformation colleagues to provide the human factors lens in support of wider improvement projects within the trust. Her work contributed to measurable improvements in patient safety and staff wellbeing and earned six HSJ Patient Safety Award short-listings. She has presented widely at national conferences and co-authored publications in Anaesthesia, BJA Education, and Ergonomics.
In addition to her healthcare work, Jenny has experience in the med-tech industry designing and delivering summative and readability studies to support regulatory compliance with ISO 14971, IEC 62366-1/2, and FDA human factors guidance.
Jenny brings deep expertise in systems thinking, user-centred design, patient safety, and human factors integration. She is known for her meticulous approach, strong collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, and ability to deliver high-quality outcomes in complex environments.
Her interests include HF education, safety science, organisational systems, and supporting professionals pursuing chartership with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF).
